USCA Completes Sweep Of Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The USCA softball team completed the three-game sweep of Lander on Saturday, posting wins by scores of 2-0 and 5-2.

The Pacers are now 18-19 on the season, including 6-9 in PBC play.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team jumped on top with a run in the first inning and never looked back. Autumn Fisher led off the game with a single to left field and hustled to second on a bunt single by Lydia Johnson. With two down, Anna Turner roped a double to center field, plating Fisher.

The score remained the same until Poole's team struck again in the sixth. Kate Newberry drew a walk and Peri Rouillard entered as a pinch runner. After scampering to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mallory Shaver, Rouillard scored as Turner reached on an error for a 2-0 advantage.

For the game, Fisher had three of the team's five base hits. Johnson and Turner each garnered a base knock. Turner had one RBI while Fisher and Rouillard scored in the victory.

In the circle, Ally Fleming was spectacular. She gave up just seven hits and recorded the shutout. She did not walk a batter.

Game two saw the Pacers jump on top with two runs in the top of the first. Fisher led off the game with an infield single and went to second on a base knock by Johnson. Newberry belted a single to left, driving in Fisher. While Newberry swiped second, Johnson scored on an error by the catcher, pushing the advantage to 2-0.

The Pacers tacked on two more in the second. Madison Rogers garnered a walk and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashlyn White. Fisher pelted a pitch into left center field scoring Rogers. Moments later, Newberry doubled in Fisher for a 4-0 lead.

Rogers singled to lead off the fourth and moved to second on White's bunt hit. Each stole a base to put both in scoring position. Fisher lofted a sacrifice fly to center field, which was deep enough to drive in Rogers.

Lander cut the margin to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the sixth, but Lakyn Phillips was able to shut down the Bearcats, ending the rally.

For the game, Fisher, Johnson and Newberry had two hits apiece. Newberry drove in two while Fisher and Rogers each scored twice.

In the circle, Phillips went the distance for the complete-game win. She gave up two runs, neither of which were earned, on three hits with two strikeouts.

The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Wingate for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
