USCA Drops Doubleheader At Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – The USCA softball team lost two games at Wingate on Tuesday by scores of 9-1 and 4-1.

The Pacers are now 18-21 on the season.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first stanza of the opener. Autumn Fisher led off the game with a double to left center field. With two outs, she advanced to third on a passed ball before easily scoring on Mallory Shaver's double to left center field on a 1-2 count.

Down 5-1 in the fifth, Alexis Stout reached after being hit by a pitch, but she was left stranded.

The Bulldogs plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth for the run-rule victory.

For the game, Fisher and Shaver had doubles. Shaver drove in Fisher for the team's lone run.

In the circle, Ally Fleming went the distance and had a pair of strikeouts.

Game two saw USCA take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first frame. With two down, Kate Newberry ripped a double to right field. Shaver promptly took a 2-0 offering and belted a single down the left field line, allowing Newberry to score.

Down 4-1 in the fifth, Madison Rogers took the first pitch she saw and laced a hit down the right field line. Ashlyn White singled up the middle, pushing Rogers to second. However, the two were left stranded.

Fisher had a single with two outs in the seventh, but she was unable to cross home.

For the game, Fisher, Newberry, Rogers, Shaver and White had base hits. Shaver drove in Newberry.

In the circle, Payton Baker went the distance and had five strikeouts.
