COLUMBUS, Ga. – The USCA baseball team used a pair of grand slams to knock off Columbus State 11-7 Sunday afternoon in the series finale.
The Pacers are now 14-16 overall, including 6-6 in PBC play.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team trailed the Cougars 4-0 after the first inning. Two frames later, USCA responded with a five-run outburst.
Josh Sharp led off the stanza with a walk and moved to second on a base knock by
Capers Molinaroli.
Hunter Thompson ripped a single to right field, allowing Sharp to race home.
Brody Yeomans recorded a base knock to load the bags.
Jack Hobson launched a grand slam over the center field wall for a 5-4 advantage.
Tied at 5-5 in the fifth, Hobson tripled and scored on an error when
Gage Kirkland reached on a fielder's choice.
With the score at 6-6 in the sixth, Molinaroli and Thompson each walked, forcing a pitching change. A fielder's choice put Molinaroli on third and he scored when Yeomans lofted a sacrifice fly to center field for a one-run margin.
Holder's team broke it open in the seventh with four more runs. Hobson led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a double by
JB Bell with one down. After the Cougars put Sharp on via an intentional walk to load the bases, Molinaroli smashed the team's second grand slam of the game for an 11-6 edge.
For the game, Hobson and Molinaroli each produced two hits, including one grand slam apiece. Hobson also recorded a triple. Thompson also had a multi-hit game. Hobson and Molinaroli scored three times apiece while Sharp crossed home twice.
On the mound,
Cade Bouknight got the start and worked 4.2 innings. He had a pair of strikeouts.
Damien Ashley worked the final 4.1 innings for the win. He also had two strikeouts.
