Sharp Ties Single-Season School Record In Win Over Augusta

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – Josh Sharp tied the school record with his 10th triple of the season and scored four runs as the USCA baseball team bested Augusta in a non-conference contest Wednesday by an 8-7 score at SRP Park.

The Pacers are now 15-16 on the season.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the first, Sharp tripled to right center field and scored on a groundout by Capers Molinaroli.

Down 5-1 in the third, JB Bell reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second when Sharp reached on an error. A double steal put both runners in scoring position. Hunter Thompson promptly belted a single, plating Bell and Sharp to pull the Pacers within two at 5-3.

With one down in the fifth, Sharp was once again the catalyst, drawing a walk and moving to second on a passed ball. After a walk to Molinaroli, a wild pitch put both student-athletes in scoring position. Thompson was hit by a pitch and a walk to Wyatt McPherson plated Sharp.

USCA kept things going when Griffin Rowe was hit by a pitch, pushing across Molinaroli. Donovan Glisson reached on a fielder's choice and Thompson scored on the play. McPherson scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.

Sharp's solo round-tripper in the sixth gave the Pacers a two-run cushion, 8-6.

AU scored a run in the eighth, but Charles Herring, Jr., picked up the save with his strong performance.

For the game, Sharp led the way with a home run and a triple to go along with four runs scored and one RBI. Sharp tied Tyler Moore's record of 10 triples during the 2014 season. Cannon Frost had two hits. Hunter Thompson drove in two.

On the mound, Connor Sampers got the start and had a strikeout. Jared Huse and Lucas Highberger had three strikeouts apiece. Highberger garnered the victory. Herring, Jr., posted five strikeouts in two innings to get the save. Luke Norman and Jacob Bodkin also saw time on the mound.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they host Lander at 5 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
