COLUMBUS, Ga. – The USCA baseball team lost a 5-4 contest at Columbus State Friday evening in the series opener.
The pacers are now 13-15 overall, including 5-5 in PBC play.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team trailed 2-0 through the fifth frame. However, the squad rattled off three runs in the sixth for a 3-2 advantage.
JB Bell walked and was able to trot home when
Josh Sharp belted a two-run home run over the right field wall. With two down,
Donovan Glisson used the long ball, crushing a pitch over the right field fence for a one-run margin.
CSU countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-3 lead.
With two out in the eighth, Sharp registered another round-tripper. Once again, the ball landed over the wall in right field, knotting the score at 4-4.
CSU managed to score the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
For the game, Sharp led the way with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored. Glisson had a solo home run, and
Tyler Casciato had a hit.
On the mound,
Blayne Newman tossed six frames and had nine strikeouts. He gave up four runs, but only two were earned, on three hits. He also walked just three.
Damien Ashley tossed the final 2.1 innings and had three strikeouts.
