NEWBERRY, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost a 5-2 contest at Newberry Wednesday evening in a non-conference competition.
The Pacers are now 13-14 on the season while the Wolves stand at 15-13.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Josh Sharp roped a one-out single to left field and swiped second.
Donovan Glisson reached on an error and Sharp raced home on the play.
In the sixth, Sharp was the offensive catalyst once again. He led off the inning with a triple to right center field and trotted home on a base hit to left center field by Glisson for a 2-0 advantage.
The Wolves countered with three runs in the sixth and added two more in the eighth for a 5-2 edge.
USCA was unable to put a runner on base in the ninth inning.
For the game, Sharp led the way with two hits, including a triple. He also scored both of the team's runs. Glisson drove in one while
Jack Hobson recorded a double.
Tyler Casciato,
Wyatt McPherson and
Griffin Rowe all had hits. Casciato, Hobson and
Hunter Thompson drew walks.
On the mound,
Connor Sampers got the start and worked four frames. He had three strikeouts and did not allow a run.
Damien Ashley worked 1.2 innings and had a strikeout.
Charles Herring, Jr., finished the sixth and had a strikeout.
Jared Huse worked one-third of a frame while
Cole Evilsizor threw two-thirds of an inning and had a strikeout. Nick Tadei threw a scoreless eighth stanza.
Holder's team had two runs on seven hits with one error while Newberry totaled five runs on eight hits and one miscue.
