USCA Falls To Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The USCA softball team lost both games at Georgia College Saturday by scores of 4-3 and 8-0.

The Pacers are now 13-16 on the year, including 2-7 in PBC play.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team fell behind 1-0 in the second inning of game one. USCA finally recorded its first base runner in the fourth inning. With two down, Mallory Shaver drew a walk and moved to third on Kate Newberry's double. Lakyn Phillips recorded her first career home run, smashing an offering high over the left field wall for a 3-1 edge.

The Pacers had a runner on base in the fifth and sixth frames, but the team was unable to push either across.

GCSU tied it in the sixth before claiming the win with two outs in the seventh stanza.

For the game, Newberry and Phillips had the only two hits for the team. Phillips drove in all three runs with a round-tripper.

In the circle, Phillips took the loss. She worked 6.2 innings and had seven strikeouts.

Game two saw the Bobcats plate a run in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth for the 8-0 win.

USCA had its first base runner in the third when Madison Rogers was hit by a pitch. She moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashlyn White. However, Rogers was left stranded.

Down 1-0 in the fourth, Newberry smacked a pitch to center field, but she was erased to end the inning on a fielder's choice.

Trailing 4-0 in the sixth, Autumn Fisher doubled with one away. Fisher took third on a groundout. Phillips drew a walk to put two on, but a fly ball ended the stanza.

For the game, Fisher had a double while Newberry and Anna Turner posted hits.

In the circle, Ally Fleming got the start and worked four innings. Baker worked the final 1.1 innings for the visitors.

The Pacers return to action Monday when they travel to Claflin for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
