AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA softball team lost a 6-1 decision in the series-opening game against Columbus State Friday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 13-17 on the season, including 2-8 in PBC play.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team jumped on top with a lead-off home run by
Autumn Fisher. However, the Cougars posted a solo round-tripper in the second and third for a 2-1 advantage.
Trailing 4-1 in the fifth,
Mollie Rollings drew a one-out walk.
Madison Rogers hit an offering just over the first baseman's outstretched glove. The ball stayed in fair territory for a single, putting two on. On an 0-1 pitch, the duo stole a base to have runners on second and third. Back-to-back outs ended the threat.
Kate Newberry posted a one-out single in the sixth, but she was erased on a fielder's choice.
Ashlyn White entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh with one away and responded with an opposite field single. She moved to second on a groundout and hustled to third on a wild pitch.
For the game, Rogers led the way with two hits. Fisher crushed a solo home run while Newberry and White had hits.
In the circle,
Payton Baker went the distance and had six strikeouts.
