USCA Falls To Flagler

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team dropped a pair of games to Flagler by scores of 7-3 and 10-6.

The Pacers are now 13-13 overall, including 5-4 in PBC play.

Head coach Michael Holder's team fell behind after Flagler plated two runs in the first inning. However, USCA sliced the deficit to just one an inning later.

Jack Hobson led off the frame with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. After a Brody Yeomans base knock to the shortstop, Gage Kirkland lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in Hobson to make it 2-1.

Two innings later, Donovan Glisson drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a groundout. He was left stranded in scoring position.

Down 3-1 in the sixth, Josh Sharp earned a four-pitch walk. He moved to second on an infield single by Glisson. Hunter Thompson reached on a fielder's choice. Glisson advanced on an error and Sharp scored on the play. Hobson followed it with a base hit to third, plating Glisson for the third run of the game.  

Flagler scored three runs in the eighth for a 6-3 advantage.

For the game, Hobson had two hits, one RBI and scored a run. Glisson and Sharp each scored a run. Sharp had a double. Kirkland and Thompson drove in one apiece.

On the mound, Logan Wise got the start and worked 5.2 innings. Damien Ashley and Cole Evilsizor each went 1.2 innings in the loss. Wise and Evilsizor had one strikeout apiece.

Game two saw Holder's team take an early 1-0 lead. Sharp roped a double to right field and took third on Tyler Casciato's base hit. Two batters later, Wyatt McPherson laid down a sacrifice bunt, pushing Sharp home for the advantage.

Down 2-1 in the third, Sharp got things going with a one-out single. Casciato reached on a fielder's choice as Sharp took second. The two stole a base to get into scoring position. McPherson belted a single to left field, knocking in two for a 3-2 edge.

Sharp started the fifth with a double to left and went to third on Casciato's single to left field. Thompson laid down a beautiful bunt down the line toward third base, allowing Sharp to race home.

Rowe led off the sixth with a base hit up the middle on an 0-2 count. After swiping second, Glisson belted a single to the right side, allowing Rowe to score for a two-run cushion. Sharp's third double of the game plated Glisson for a 6-3 margin.

The Saints scored six runs in the eighth and one in the ninth for a 10-6 lead.

For the game, Sharp led the way with four hits, including three doubles. He also crossed home three times. Casciato and McPherson had two hits apiece. McPherson drove in three.

On the mound, Cade Bouknight got the start and went 5.1 innings. He had two strikeouts. Jared Huse worked 1.2 innings with a strikeout. Charles Herring, Jr., and Ashley saw time on the mound while CEvilsizor went 1.1 frames with two strikeouts.
