AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost a 7-3 decision to Emmanuel Saturday in the second game of the series.
The Pacers are now 2-3 on the season while the Lions stand at 4-2.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the first,
Capers Molinaroli ripped a single through the left side of the defense. However, he was erased on a fielder's choice.
Trailing 4-0 in the second,
Jack Hobson blasted a double to right center field, but a pop-up ended the threat.
Two innings later,
Hunter Thompson drew a lead-off walk on four straight pitches. With one away,
Tyler Casciato placed an offering into left field to put runners on first and second. A double play ended the stanza.
Hobson led off the fifth inning with a base knock to left field on a 2-2 pitch but was erased on a fielder's choice.
With the score at 6-0 in the seventh,
Gage Kirkland belted a double down the left field line. He was left stranded in scoring position.
Molinaroli pelted an offering into center field for a two-out single. Thompson crushed a pitch to the wall in left field for a double, allowing Molinaroli to reach home to make it 7-1 in the eighth inning.
The Pacers continued to battle in the ninth. Kirkland walked and moved to third on
Donovan Glisson's double to right field. A groundout by Hobson allowed Kirkland to race home. A
Cannon Jones groundout pushed across Glisson to make it 7-3.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team was led by Hobson and Molinaroli with two hits apiece. Hobson, Thompson, Kirkland and Glisson had doubles.
On the mound,
Logan Wise got the start and had three strikeouts.
Luke Norman worked 2.1 innings and had a pair of strikeouts.
Jacob Butler and
Charles Herring, Jr., had an inning of work each. Herring, Jr. tallied two strikeouts.
