Pacers Split With Griffins

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team split a doubleheader against Seton Hill on Saturday. The Pacers earned a 13-2 victory in game one before falling to the Griffins 6-1 in the nightcap.

The Pacers are now 3-6 on the season.

Head coach Michael Holder's team trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the second frame, but the team knotted the contest. Donovan Glisson walked and moved to second on a groundout. Two batters later, Jack Hobson belted a double to left field, making it 1-1.

Glisson got things going for USCA in the fourth with an infield hit. After moving to second on a base knock by Tyler Casciato, Hobson ripped another double, plating Glisson. A Brady Yeomans' single to right field drove in two for a 4-1 edge.

Capers Molinaroli doubled to lead off the fifth. Two batters later, he was able to trot home when Glisson unleashed a two-run shot over the left field wall for a five-run cushion. Rookie Hunter Thompson extended the lead to 7-1 on a solo blast to lead off the seventh inning.

Up 7-2 in the eighth, Molinaroli singled in two. Glisson's sacrifice fly pushed across one before Gage Kirkland ripped an infield single that scored Molinaroli. Holder's team continued the offensive firepower as Jack Hobson singled in Casciato before Trevor Gruszka doubled in Kirkland for the final run.

For the game, Hobson tied the school record by going five-for-five, picking up a pair of doubles and three RBI. He also came across to score once. Kirkland notched three hits while driving in and scoring one. Glisson recorded a pair of hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs. Thompson also belted a home run, while Molinaroli, Casciato and Yeomans all registered two hits apiece in the match-up. Molinaroli and Yeomans each picked up a pair of RBI with Gruszka plating and scoring a run, respectively.

On the mound, Logan Wise earned the win, tossing seven frames, recording four strikeouts while only allowing a pair of runs. Cole Evilsizor came in for two innings of relief, allowing a single hit while holding the visitors scoreless.

Game two saw both teams trade runs in the first inning. Trailing 1-0, Josh Sharp led off the stanza by reaching on an error. He promptly hustled to third on the base hit by Molinaroli the following play. Wyatt McPherson pushed Sharp home on a groundout to the right side, knotting the score at one.

The visitors plated runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to keep the home team at bay the rest of the way.

For the game, Molinaroli, Yeomans and Casciato each tallied a hit. Thompson drove in one run, while Sharp crossed home to record the only run of the game for the Pacers.

On the mound, Cade Bouknight got the start, throwing four innings, striking out five and only allowing two runs. Luke Norman pitched 0.2 innings and registered a strikeout, while Jacob Bodkin tossed 1.1 frames earning one strikeout, respectively. Connor Sampers finished the game for the Pacers, throwing one scoreless inning of relief, walking one and striking out three.
