AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision Saturday afternoon to Augusta in the regular-season finale.
The Pacers are now 15-15 on the season, including 6-9 in league play.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was led by
Alli Bishop's match-high 11 kills while hitting .450.
Anna Sommer added six kills and five blocks.
Bailey Corrigan added four kills.
Sidney Hogan dished out 15 assists while
Madison Fox notched 10 assists.
Defensively,
Kira Bostick posted a match-best 15 digs while
Chloe Duzenack chipped in 10.
Lexi Rogers accounted for seven digs while Fox had six. Hogan and Sommer posted five digs each.
Down 9-8 in the first set, Bishop and Sommer combined for a block. Bishop slammed home a kill before error made it 11-9. Down 16-14,
Avery Pearson slammed home a pass from Fox. Patterson and Sommer tied it at 16-16. Trailing 21-19, Bishop hammered home a pass from Bostick to make it a one-point contest. However, AU managed to hold onto the 25-22 win.
Leading 8-7 in the second stanza, a miscue by the Jaguars gave USCA the side-out. Rogers found the court for a point. Moments later, Pearson's block pushed the margin to 13-10. Up 16-15, Corrigan slammed home a pass from Fox and Bostick served up an ace. The Jaguars bounced back to take the lead, but Cox's squad knotted it multiple times, including at 22-22 on Bishop's point. However, the Jaguars rattled off the final three points for the win.
With the score at 9-7 in the third frame, Duzenack found the court for a point. A miscue by the Jaguars knotted the score at 9-9. Trailing 13-10, Sommer and Corrigan notched back-to-back points to close the gap to 13-12. Down 18-13, an error by the visitors and an ace from Fox pulled the Pacers within three at 18-15, but that was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.
For the match, USCA tallied 33 kills and hit .103. The squad dished out 32 assists and had 57 digs.
The Pacers return to action in the PBC Tournament against Georgia College & State University. The league office will announce the bracket in the near future. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
