AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team placed four student-athletes in double figures for kills in the 3-1 win at Newberry Wednesday.
The Pacers are now 15-14 on the season.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was paced by
Anna Sommer's 14-kill effort while hitting .448.
Alli Bishop added 13 kills while hitting .367.
Chloe Duzenack and
Lexi Rogers totaled 10 kills apiece. Rogers notched a double-double with 19 digs.
Bailey Corrigan chipped in six kills.
Sidney Hogan turned in a double-double with 35 assists and 14 digs while
Madison Fox added 17 assists. At the service line Corrigan, Fox and
Kira Bostick had two aces each.
Defensively, Bostick led the charge with 21 digs. Corrigan added 11 and Fox chipped in eight in the win.
USCA opened the match with five consecutive points. Corrigan got things started with a kill. Bishop followed her up with a point before Corrigan found the court for an ace. After a kill from Sommer, Corrigan notched her second ace. Leading 8-5, Rogers took a pass from Hogan and slammed it home. Fox tallied a pair of aces for a six-point cushion. Up 17-12, Bishop and Rogers added points. Bishop and Pearson blocked an attack for a 21-12 edge before Duzenack finished off the frame with a kill for the 25-19 win.
The back-and-forth second set saw Cox's team take a 16-15 lead after a kill from Duzenack and an ace from Bostick. Down by one, Bishop tied it at 20-20. Two miscues by the Wolves gave the Pacers a 22-20 advantage. Newberry led 24-23 before Bishop and Rogers posted points. Tied at 25-25, Duzenack answered the bell with back-to-back kills.
After dropping the third set, Cox's squad put the contest away quickly in the fourth. Duzenack, Bishop, Sommer and Rogers had kills in the 6-1 start. Leading 12-10, Fox started a run with a point. Bishop and Duzenack tallied kills before Hogan's ace pushed the margin to seven, 17-10. After a time-out, the Pacers continued to pull away. Duzenack and Sommer combined for a block before Bishop and Sommer added kills for a 20-10 lead. Sommer and Bishop had two kills apiece down the stretch for the 25-15 win.
For the match, USCA had 62 kills and hit .214. The squad dished out 58 assists and had seven aces. Cox's group produced 90 digs.
