AIKEN, S.C. – A pair of second-half goals propelled the USCA women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Middle Georgia State Saturday evening in the regular-season finale.
The Pacers are now 8-6-3 on the year, including 4-4-2 in PBC action.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team had an excellent opportunity just 81 seconds into the match, but
Gillian Young's attempt missed high.
Shy Iles' header at 4:13 was foiled by the keeper.
Lexi Blasberg's header just a few seconds later was also saved.
Iles placed a shot on frame at the 31:02 mark and
Ashtyn Ivey did three minutes later, but both shots were stopped by the keeper.
Savannah Yerger continued her solid first half, picking up a late save as the contest entered the second half at 0-0.
Blasberg took a pass into the box and tapped in the goal at the 57:49 mark for a 1-0 lead.
Greta Ohlwein was credited with the assist.
Less than a minute later, Ivey and Ohlwein connected for a score. Ivey received the pass from 20 yards out and fired the attempt to the far post for the two-score margin.
Yerger recorded a pair of saves in the next eight minutes of action – and USCA played the majority of the rest of the match in the offensive third of the pitch.
Iles and
Isabella Recalde each posted shots that narrowly missed the goal.
Madylena Perez's shot at the 77:18 mark was saved and Iles' attempt in the 84
th minute was blocked by a defender.
For the match, Yerger played all 90 minutes between the pipes and recorded three saves while picking up her second clean sheet in a row in front of the home crowd.

The Pacers return to action in the PBC Tournament. The bracket will be announced by the league office.
