Pacers Sweep Knights

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team recorded a 3-0 win over Middle Georgia State Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 13-12 on the season, including 5-6 in PBC play.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Anna Sommer's 12 kill effort. She hit .611 while adding three blocks. Chloe Duzenack had nine kills while Alli Bishop and Lexi Rogers chipped in six apiece. Rogers also had three of the team's aces. 

Sidney Hogan led the way with 18 assists while posting six digs. Madison Fox had 13 assists and three digs.

Defensively, Kira Bostick contributed 10 digs while Duzenack and Rogers had eight and seven, respectively. At the net, Bishop, Tucker Patterson and Pearson had two blocks apiece.

USCA jumped out to a 12-3 lead and never looked back. Sommer and Bishop started the match with kills before Rogers served up an ace. Moments later, Pearson started another run with a kill and block. Up 9-3, Rogers added a pair of kills en route to a nine-point margin. Leading 17-10, Sommer started a spurt with a kill. Duzenack and Bishop added points on the way to the 25-11 win.

Leading 14-10 in the second frame, Sommer hammered home a pass from Hogan. After an ace from Rogers and a miscue by the visitors, Sommer found the court again for an eight-point margin, forcing a time-out. After the break, Sommer slammed home a pass from Hogan. Rogers served up a pair of aces while Bishop had a kill and Duzenack added two for a 22-10 margin. Moments later, Duzenack and Bishop posted back-to-back points for the 25-12 victory.

Trailing 10-8, Fox recorded a kill. Rogers and Sommer combined for a block before an attack error by the Knights forced a break in action with Cox's team leading 11-10. Up 15-14, an error by the visitors and a kill from Rogers pushed the margin to three, 17-14. Holding a 17-15 edge, Leilani Brown found the court for a point. Patterson and Sommer combined for a block before Bostick served up an ace. With a 21-16 lead, Rogers started a 4-0 spurt to conclude the match. Sommer also had a kill during the run.

For the match, USCA totaled 43 kills and 39 assists. The squad posted 49 digs and served up five aces.
