Pacers Cruise Past Bearcats

GREENWOOD, S.C. - The USCA volleyball team posted a 3-0 win at Lander Saturday afternoon in a key PBC clash.

The Pacers are now 7-7 on the season, including 2-1 in PBC play.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Alli Bishop's eight kills while Bailey Corrigan and Anna Sommer contributed seven kills apiece. Ana Cate Loftus notched five kills and Chloe Duzenack chipped in four in the win.

Sideny Hogan dished out 18 assists to go along with eight digs.

Defensively, Kira Bostick notched 13 digs. Sommer had three solo blocks and three block assists in the win.

Tied at 17-17 in the first frame, an error by the Bearcats and an ace from Sommer gave USCA a 19-17 edge. Lander tied it at 21-21 before Sommer found the court for a point and served up an ace for the two-point lead. The Pacers made it 24-23 on a kill from Corrigan before an attack error provided the visitors with a 25-23 win.  

Up 12-6 in the second set, a miscue and a kill by Loftus made it 14-6. Holding a 16-10 edge, an error by the Bearcats started a run by Cox's team. Bishop slammed home a kill as did Sommer. After a ball handling error by Lander, Hogan served up an ace before Sommer stuffed an attack for an insurmountable lead at 21-10 en route to the 25-12 victory.

The tightly-contested third frame was knotted at 17-17 before Madison Fox powered home a kill. Loftus pushed the lead to two, 19-17, on a kill. Duzenack tied the contest at 20-20 on a kill before Bishop and Sommer blocked an attempt. Tied at 21-21, a service error sparked a 4-0 run by USCA. Corrigan had a kill before Sommer blocked an attempt. Sommer finished the match with a thunderous kill off a pass from Hogan.

For the match, USCA tallied 33 kills while hitting .221. The squad served up six aces, five solo blocks and six block assists. The team totaled 49 digs.
