Pacers Sweep Knights In PBC Action

COCHRAN, Ga. – The USCA volleyball team recorded a 3-0 win at Middle Georgia State University Friday evening in a PBC contest.

The Pacers are now 8-7 overall, including 3-1 in PBC play.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Bailey Corrigan's 10 kills. Alli Bishop and Chloe Duzenack added seven kills apiece while Avery Pearson and Anna Sommer contributed six and four, respectively.

Sidney Hogan distributed 17 assists while Madison Fox dished out 13.

Defensively, Kira Bostick garnered 13 digs. Sommer had seven block assists. Duzenack added five block assists.

The tightly-contested first set saw the Knights take an early lead before a miscue pulled the Pacers within two. Duzenack and Sommer blocked an attempt to make it 18-17. Down 20-18, Bishop notched back-to-back kills, forcing a time-out. Trailing 21-20, two errors by the home team and a kill from Corrigan pushed USCA to a two-point cushion, 23-21. Tied at 24-24, Corrigan and Pearson registered points for the 26-24 win.

Cox's squad jumped out to a 7-2 lead after a kill from Sommer. Up 13-10, Bishop stuffed an attempt. Two plays later, Hogan baffled everyone with a campfire kill for a 15-11 edge. Back-to-back aces by Ella Hukel propelled the Pacers to a 17-11 margin and the team was not challenged the rest of the way. Holding a 22-18 lead, two miscues by the Knights and a block from Bishop and Sommer gave the visitors a 25-18 win.

The Knights held a 13-10 lead in the third frame before a service error started a run. Sommer and Bishop garnered kills, knotting the score at 13-13. Tied at 16-16, Hogan posted a kill. An error by the Knights and an ace from Fox extended the margin to three, 19-16. Corrigan's ace made it 21-17. Moments later, Duzenack and Sommer combined for a block. Duzenack tacked on a kill. Up 24-21, Duzenack finished off the sweep with a kill off a pass from Fox.

For the match, USCA tallied 39 kills and hit .250. The squad dished out 38 assists, served up seven aces, had 16 block assists and notched 34 digs.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they play at Augusta at 1 p.m., followed by a neutral-site match against Shaw at 3 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
