AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Middle Georgia State Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 12-12 on the season, including 4-6 in PBC play.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was led by
Anna Sommer's 13 kills and .619 attack percentage.
Chloe Duzenack added nine kills while
Alli Bishop,
Avery Pearson and
Lexi Rogers added seven kills apiece.
Bailey Corrigan and
Sidney Hogan had two kills each while
Tucker Patterson had one.
Hogan had a double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs.
Madison Fox dished out 16 assists while
Camie Mitrovich added four.
Defensively, Rogers led the way with 14 digs while
Kira Bostick had 10. At the net, Sommer was in on two solo blocks and six block assists. Bishop had four block assists.
The back-and-forth first set saw the visitors take an 11-7 lead before Sommer answered with a kill. Two errors – one off a block from Sommer – forced a time-out by MGSU. Sommer and Bishop combined for a block to knot it at 11-11. Corrigan, Sommer and Bishop posted kills for a 14-11 edge. The Knights regained the advantage at 21-18 before Rogers started a run for Cox's squad. Sommer added two kills and USCA finished the set with another point from Sommer at 25-23.
The Pacers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second stanza and never looked back. Leading 5-1, Bishop started another run. Sommer and Hogan added kills before four straight errors made it 12-1. Cox's team extended the margin to 15-5 on another miscue. Another 7-0 spurt late in the frame pushed it to 23-7. Moments later, another attack error by the Knights made it 25-9.
USCA trailed 10-5 in the early going of the third frame before Pearson slammed home back-to-back points. Rogers tallied a kill to make it 10-8. Down 13-10, Sommer and Bishop posted kills. Rogers tied it at 14-14. Leading 18-17, Duzenack and Rogers posted points. Holding a 22-20 edge, Sommer had a kill. She was then in on the final two blocks – one with Duzenack and another with Bishop – for the 25-20 final.
For the match, USCA had 48 kills and 46 assists. The Pacers had 52 digs and nine team blocks. Cox's team totaled 52 digs and three aces.
