Pacers Race Past Bobcats

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team recorded a 3-0 win over Georgia College & State University Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 6-7 on the season, including 1-1 in PBC play. The Bobcats drop to 8-6 overall and 1-2 against conference foes.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Anna Sommer's tremendous contest. She registered 10 kills to go along with nine total blocks. Alli Bishop ad Bailey Corrigan notched seven kills each while Lexi Rogers chipped in four kills. 

Sidney Hogan dished out 19 assists while Madison Fox added nine assists. Defensively, Kira Bostick led the charge with 18 digs while Rogers and Corrigan totaled 11 and 10, respectively. At the net, Bishop totaled five blocks. 

Leading 11-9 in the first set, Rogers hammered home a kill. Sommer added a point as did Corrigan for a 15-9 edge. Holding a 21-20 lead, an error sparked a run for Cox's team. After another miscue, Bishop and Sommer combined for a block. Bishop finished off the set with a kill for the 25-21 advantage.

Tied at 8-8 in the second frame, Sommer started a spurt with a pair of kills. Tucker Patterson tallied a point before Bostick served up an ace. Up 14-10, Bishop found the court for a point. Moments later, Bishop and Sommer combined for a block. On the ensuing play, Corrigan and Sommer recorded a block. Leading 24-20, Sommer finished off the frame with a kill.   

USCA led 11-9 in the third set and four straight errors propelled the Pacers in front 15-9. Sommer had a kill and Hogan served up an ace. Then, Sommer added another point. Two plays later, Bishop and Sommer combined for a block. Rogers and Sommer stuffed an attempt before three straight miscues gave USCA a 24-10 lead. Two plays later, an error finished the contest for the Pacers at 25-11.  

For the match, USCA had 36 kills, 63 digs and nine total team blocks (two solo, 14 assisted).
