USCA Knocks Off UNC Pembroke

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The USCA volleyball team registered a 3-1 win against UNC Pembroke Tuesday evening in a neutral site contest held at Augusta University.

The Pacers are now 11-12 on the season.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Chloe Duzenack's 12-kill effort. Alli Bishop added 11 kills. Anna Sommer had eight kills while hitting .421 without an error. Lexi Rogers chipped in six kills while Madison Fox had four. Sidney Hogan and Tucker Patterson chipped in two and one, respectively.

Hogan had 19 assists and eight digs while Fox totaled 16 assists and six digs.

Defensively, Kira Bostick led the way with 25 digs. Rogers had 12 digs while Corrigan accounted for six.

Down 6-3 in the opening frame, Duzenack hammered home a kill. Trailing 9-6, Duzenack found Fox for a point. An error by the Braves made it 9-8. Moments later, Bishop's cross-court kill pulled the Pacers within two at 12-10. Bishop stopped a scoring streak by the visitors to pull the squad within six at 17-11. Down 20-11, Duzenack and Patterson each found the court for points. Rogers got into the mix two plays later. Bishop's kill and a miscue by UNCP pulled the team within five, 23-18, but the Braves scored two of the next three points for the 25-19 win.

USCA rebounded in the second stanza. Leading 6-3, Duzenack found the court for a point before Corrigan served up an ace. Holding a 13-11 edge, Duzenack slammed home a pass from Bostick. Corrigan recorded another ace, forcing a time-out by the Braves. Leading 18-16, an error made it a three-point contest. Corrigan's point extended the advantage to four as UNCP called a break in action. Up 24-20, a service error gave the Pacers the five-point win.

An 8-0 run to start the third frame propelled Cox's team to the victory. Sommer started things off with a kill and was in on a block with Rogers two plays later. The duo recorded a block for a 6-0 edge before a point from Rogers gave the squad the eight-point cushion. Leading 17-13, Bishop had back-to-back points before Hogan baffled the defense with a campfire kill. Fox's kill gave USCA the 25-17 win.  

Holding a 9-8 lead in the fourth stanza, two attack errors and points from Fox and Duzenack extended the margin to five, 13-8. The Braves managed to tie the score at 16-16, but Sommer answered the call with a kill. Two plays later, Corrigan made it 18-17 with a point. Leading 22-21, Rogers ended a fast and furious rally with a kill down the line. Duzenack sent a pass cross-court for a three-point margin. Up 24-23, UNCP's attack error ended the contest.

For the match, USCA had 50 kills and hit .224. The team dished out 48 assists and served up five aces. The squad had two solo blocks and posted 70 digs.
