AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory at USC Beaufort Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 6-6-3 on the season, including 3-4-2 in PBC play.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team broke the scoreless draw in the 42
nd minute. At the 41:26 mark,
Shy Iles blasted a shot past the keeper for a 1-0 advantage.
USCA continued to apply pressure in the offensive third of the pitch early in the second stanza. Iles posted a shot on frame in the 52
nd minute, but it was turned away.
Greta Ohlwein rocketed an attempt toward the goal two minutes later, but the keeper saved it.
The Sand Sharks countered in the 60
th minute, but
Savannah Yerger stopped a shot. The home team had a shot in the 76
th minute but Yerger's impressive play kept the squad off the board.
In the 77
th minute, Ohlwein converted a shot for the 2-0 cushion.
USCA's defense withstood a late flurry of attempts by the Sand Sharks. In the final 10 minutes, Yerger had four saves. Two attempts were blocked and another sailed high for the home squad as Kleman's team notched the victory.
For the match, Yerger had 11 saves. Iles and Ohlwein had three shots apiece.
USCA holds a 3-2 edge in the all-time series against the Sand Sharks.
