Pacers Drop Contest To Bearcats

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team lost a 3-0 contest to Lander Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 10-12 on the season, including 3-6 in PBC play.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Anna Sommer's 10 kills. Alli Bishop added five and Ana Cate Loftus chipped in three. 

Sidney Hogan accounted for 14 assists while Camie Mitrovich added eight.

Defensively, Kira Bostick led the way with 10 digs while Loftus accounted for six. At the net, Bishop had five blocks while Sommer totaled four.

Trailing 11-6 in the opening set, Sommer sparked a run with a kill. Three straight errors by the Bearcats, including one via a block from Bishop and Sommer, made it 11-10. The Pacers tied it when the dyad combined for another block at 12-12. USCA took the lead at 15-14 on Leilani Brown's kill. USCA built a two-point edge, 17-15, on a kill from Chloe Duzenack. The back-and-forth affair saw the home team take a 24-23 lead on a point by Sommer, but Lander rattled off three straight points.

Down 20-9 in the second stanza, Cox's team made a brilliant run to cut the margin to seven, 22-15. Tucker Patterson's kill in the middle of four players made it 21-11. Moments later, Loftus slammed home a kill. Patterson added another point before Sommer tallied two kills, forcing a time-out. LU managed to maintain the advantage for the 25-18 win.

Trailing 15-9 in the third set, Bishop slammed home a kill. An error by the visitors pulled the Pacers within four at 15-11. Cox's team continued to play hard. Down 24-14, Duzenack found the court for a point. Solid defense kept Lander's offense on edge and forced a pair of errors to make it 24-17, but Lander won the frame 25-17. 

For the match, USCA totaled 28 kills and had 35 digs. The team had one solo block and 14 block assists. 

The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they square off against UNC Pembroke at Augusta. The match is slated for 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
