Thomas Nets Goal In Tie At Georgia Southwestern

MORROW, Ga. – The USCA men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw at Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening.

The Pacers are now 5-5-4 on the season, including 3-4-3 in PBC play.

Head coach Nick Sakiewicz's team had an early opportunity, but Samuel Mitchell's attempt missed in the fifth minute of action. Felipe Mattos turned away a pair of attempts by the Hurricanes, keeping the contest scoreless.

Mitchell placed a shot on goal at the 30:57 mark, but it was saved.

Rafael Kawata and Liam Thomas each posted attempts, with Thomas' shot being on target. However, neither could find the back of the net.

A late save by Mattos in the first period sent the match to the second period scoreless.

Just 5:20 into the second period, Riad Zitouni connected with Kawata, who found Thomas and promptly rocketed home the pass for a 1-0 lead.

The Hurricanes knotted the contest in the 71st minute.

Less than two minutes later, Kenny Kwizera Jr., blasted an attempt, but it was thwarted by the keeper. Kawata recorded a shot on goal at the 79:43 mark, but it was saved.

The Pacers earned a pair of corner kicks in the waning moments, but the team was unable to find the back of the net.

For the match, USCA had eight shots, including five on goal. Mattos stopped four shots and earned five corner kicks.
