AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision to Lander Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 10-11 on the season, including 3-5 in PBC play.
Set scores were 25-22, 25-23, 25-13.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was led by
Anna Sommer's team-best nine kills. She added a team-best four blocks.
Alli Bishop added six kills and two blocks.
Ana Cate Loftus recorded five kills and seven digs.
Bailey Corrigan and
Avery Pearson chipped in four kills apiece while
Chloe Duzenack added three.
Sidney Hogan dished out 15 assists and had nine digs, narrowly missing a double-double.
Madison Fox notched six assists and five digs.
Kira Bostick had five assists while
Camie Mitrovich tallied three.
Defensively, Bostick led the way with 18 digs.
For the match, USCA had 33 kills and recorded 56 digs.
Tied at 6-6, USCA took the lead with an error by the Bearcats and a kill from Sommer. Up 8-7, Fox and Bishop notched kills. Cox's team trailed 17-15 before Loftus added a kill. An error by LU made it 17-17. Down 24-21, Pearson found the court for a point. However, the visitors scored the final point for a three-point win.
Trailing 10-9 in the second set, two errors by the visitors and a block from Bishop and Sommer started a 6-0 spurt. During the run, Sommer also added a kill en route to a 15-10 lead. LU battled back and took a 19-17 lead before another error pulled the Pacers within one. After a time-out, USCA rattled off five straight points, knotting the score at 23-23 after a point from Sommer, who had three kills in the spurt. However, the Bearcats scored the final two points for a 25-23 victory.
LU managed to win the final frame 25-13.
