AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Flagler Wednesday evening in a conference contest.
The Pacers are 5-6-3 on the season, including 2-4-2 in PBC action.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team had a couple of opportunities early in the match, but
Gillian Young's shot was blocked. In the 17
th minute,
Lexi Blasberg's spectacular attempt was thwarted by the keeper.
Flagler had a pair of solid chances, but one hit the crossbar and
Savannah Yerger was up to the challenge in another attempt, keeping the contest scoreless entering the second period of action.
In the 59
th minute of work,
Gillian Young connected with
Ashtyn Ivey, who found
Shy Iles in the box. Iles hammered home the pass into the left side of the goal for a 1-0 decision.
Kleman's squad nearly extended the advantage to 2-0 at the 75:00 mark. After a beautiful ball into the box,
Samantha Koneval rocketed an attempt four yards out, but the Saints managed to record the save to keep it at a one-score advantage.
With just under six minutes to play, Flagler recorded a shot from five yards out that Yerger thwarted, allowing USCA to maintain the advantage.
The Saints tied the match with 38 seconds to play. With time winding down, Blasberg hammered a shot from 20 yards out that was saved, sending the match to a 1-1 draw.
For the match, USCA had 16 shots, including eight shots on goal. Kleman's team had four corner kicks.
Young and Iles had three shots apiece, with two being on frame. Blasberg notched five shots, two of which were on goal.
Greta Ohlwein had two shots, including one on goal.
Iles had the goal while Ivey and Young were each credited with the assist.
Between the pipes, Yerger had six saves.
