ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The USCA volleyball team dropped a 3-0 contest at Flagler Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 10-10 on the season, including 3-4 in PBC play.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was led by
Anna Sommer's eight kills and four total blocks.
Bailey Corrigan added six kills while
Avery Pearson notched four kills and three blocks.
Chloe Duzenack added three kills while
Lexi Rogers chipped in two.
Madison Fox and
Sidney Hogan had 10 assists apiece.
Defensively,
Kira Bostick led the way with 16 digs while Corrigan added 11 while Hogan contributed eight digs.
Down 15-6 in the first set, Hogan found Sommer for a kill. Trailing 19-8, Corrigan started a run with a thunderous kill. After an error by the Saints,
Alli Bishop and Pearson combined for a block, pulling the team within eight at 19-11. Bishop's kill made it a seven-point contest. With the score at 24-15, Sommer notched back-to-back kills, but Flagler secured the ensuing point for a 25-17 win.
Trailing 15-8 in the second stanza, a service error by Flagler sparked a run for Cox's team.
Tucker Patterson and Sommer combined for a block before Sommer found the court for a kill. A bad set by the Saints made it 15-12. Down 21-16, Corrigan and Duzenack posted kills. USCA trailed 23-20 before Sommer sparked a 3-0 run. Hogan served up an ace and Sommer blocked an attempt, knotting the score at 23-23. However, the Saints managed to net the final two points in the 25-23 set.
Down 17-9 in the third frame, Rogers sparked a run with a kill. Three straight errors by the Saints made it 17-13. A kill from Corrigan and a block by Pearson pulled the team within five at 20-15, but Flagler answered with back-to-back points. Facing a 23-16 deficit, Duzenack found the court. Bostick served up an ace, Sommer had a kill and a combined block from Duzenack and Sommer forced a time-out with the score at 23-21. However, the team could get no closer in the 25-22 stanza.
For the match, USCA tallied 25 kills and had three aces. The squad totaled 55 digs.
