ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The USCA volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision at Flagler Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 10-9 on the season, including 3-3 in PBC play. The Saints stand at 10-11 overall and 4-2 in league action.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team was led by
Alli Bishop's seven kills.
Ana Cate Loftus added five kills while hitting .250.
Chloe Duzenack and
Anna Sommer had four kills each.
Bailey Corrigan and
Tucker Patterson chipped in two kills apiece while
Leilani Brown garnered one.
Sidney Hogan dished out 10 assists while
Madison Fox added eight.
Defensively,
Kira Bostick led the charge with 16 digs. Corrigan had six while Fox and Loftus posted five digs apiece. At the net, Patterson and Sommer shared team-high honors with two blocks each.
Trailing 10-5 in the first set, Loftus slammed home a pass from Fox before Bostick served up an ace, cutting the deficit to 10-7. USCA was unable to put together a run and the Saints slowly built a 22-12 edge. Brown and Duzenack powered home kills. Two plays later, Loftus found the court to make it 23-15, but the Saints secured the 25-15 win.
Down 9-6 in the second frame, Duzenack posted a kill before Sommer stuffed an attempt, making it a one-point contest. Points by Sommer and Bishop pulled the Pacers within two at 13-11. However, a 10-2 spurt by the Saints extended the score to 23-13. With the score at 24-14, Sommer and Bishop notched kills. A miscue by Flagler made it 24-17, but a service error allowed the home team to post a 25-17 victory.
Tied at 7-7 in the third stanza, Corrigan posted a kill. An attack error gave Cox's squad a two-point cushion. Leading 10-8, Sommer took a pass from Hogan and found the court. Up 12-9, an error by Flagler and a kill from Loftus provided USCA with a five-point margin, 14-9. A run by the Saints made it 15-14, but a bad set by Flagler and a block from
Avery Pearson and Patterson pushed the score to 17-14. Moments later, a mistake by the Saints, a point from Patterson and a block from Patterson and Sommer forced a time-out by the Saints. The tightly-contested frame saw USCA snag a 23-22 lead on an error, but the home team rattled off the final three points.
For the match, USCA tallied 25 kills and had 24 assists. The team served up a pair of aces and had 43 digs.
