Pacers Take Down Wolves

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team posted a 3-1 win over Newberry Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 10-8 on the season.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Alli Bishop's match-high 14 kills. Bailey Corrigan added 13 kills while Anna Sommer notched 11 kills and five total blocks. Chloe Duzenack chipped in nine kills. Leilani Brown totaled six kills while hitting .375. 

Sidney Hogan accounted for a double-double with 25 assists and 23 digs while Madison Fox contributed 21 assists to go along with seven digs.

Kria Bostick led the defense with 25 digs. Lexi Rogers contributed nine digs.

At the net, Bishop and Brown had four blocks apiece while Duzenack chipped in three.

Down 9-7 in the first set, two attack errors by the Wolves and a kill by Rogers gave the home team a 10-9 edge. Tied at 11-11, Corrigan's kill started a run. Bishop followed it with a point before Brown and Corrigan notched a block. Corrigan had a kill before Ella Hukel served up an ace. Bishop and Brown combined for another block for a 17-11 margin. Moments later, Bishop and Sommer combined for a block to finish off the set at 25-20. 

Leading 15-14 in the second stanza, Brown slammed home a pass from Fox. Up 17-15, Sommer notched a kill. A miscue by the Wolves and a point from Bishop extended the margin to 20-15. After a substitution, Hogan served up an ace. Newberry pulled within three at 24-21, but Brown closed the door on the Wolves at 25-21.

After dropping the third set, the fourth frame was a back-and-forth affair. Down by one, 15-14, Duzenack slammed home a kill. Brown gave the Pacers a 16-15 lead. Tied at 16-16, Duzenack and Sommer combined for a block. Duzenack thwarted the next attempt for a three-point cushion, forcing a time-out. Two miscues by the Wolves extended the lead to four, 23-19.

For the match, USCA had 58 kills and hit .176. The team had 83 digs and posted 10 total blocks.
