USCA Volleyball Weekly Notes - Week 1

VB_Notes01_2024

Volleyball | September 03, 2024

Each week, USCA will post notes.

Region Foes

This week, USCA squares off against three region foes in Coker, Belmont Abbey and Wingate. The Pacers square off against the Cobras (SAC) for the season opener before taking on Belmont Abbey (Conference Carolinas) and Wingate (SAC) on Saturday.

Thirty-Five Years

USCA and Coker first met 35 years ago – on Oct. 4, 1989 in Hartsville, S.C. In the eight previous matches between the programs since then, none have taken place at Coker.

Adding Matches To The Slate

After the original schedule was released, head coach Glenn Cox added a pair of matches – as well as a neutral-site match – on Saturday, Nov. 16. The Pacers face Lander in a non-conference contest before the Bearcats and Wolves of Newberry square off at 3 p.m. At 6 p.m., the Pacers and Wolves play in what is now the team's regular-season finale. In all, USCA has 10 home matches this season.

Talented Incoming Class

This year, head coach Glenn Cox added six student-athletes to his squad. This includes transfer Sidney Hogan and freshmen Madison Fox, Ana Cate Loftus, Avery Pearson, Tabor Scanlon and Chloe Duzenack

Adding Experience

In addition to the talented freshmen, he gained valuable experience at the setter position with Sidney Hogan. She previously played at Flagler as well as Missouri Baptist. Hogan was on the PBC Tournament Champion Saints' squad in 2022. A year ago, she guided her Missouri Baptist team to a league title and a top-16 finish in the NAIA Tournament.

PBC Preseason Poll & Preseason Honors

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was picked to finish third in the PBC Preseason Poll last week. Although the team did not record a first-place vote, the Pacers were represented on the Preseason All-Conference Team with the addition of Emily Lammers. A year ago, Lammers garnered PBC All-Tournament Team accolades en route to helping USCA to the NCAA Tournament.

Inside The Numbers

This week, USCA competes at the Coker Cobra Classic on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7. The Pacers take on Coker on Friday before squaring off against Belmont Abbey and Wingate on Saturday. Since the team moved to Division II, the Pacers are 216-144 (60.0 percent) in Friday matches and 253-153 (62.3 percent) in Saturday contests. During the same time, the program is 10-5 on Sept. 6 and 9-6 on Sept. 7.

Against The Opponents

This week, USCA competes at the Coker Cobra Classic on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7. The Pacers take on Coker on Friday before squaring off against Belmont Abbey and Wingate on Saturday.
