AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team lost a 3-1 contest to Newberry Wednesday evening in a region contest.
The Pacers are now 0-3-2 on the season while the Wolves improve to 4-0-1.
USCA registered the first shot of the match, coming off the boot of
Brooke Morrison at the 16:46 mark. However, it sailed to the left of the frame. Four minutes later,
Haley Howell turned and rocketed a shot on target, but his attempt was thwarted by the keeper.
The Wolves had a shot in the 33
rd minute and a minute later,
Kaydence Moore recorded a save. However, the visitors broke through for a goal in the 44
th minute of action for a 1-0 lead at the break.
Trailing 2-1 after a Newberry goal at the 68:30 mark, head coach
Adam Kleman's team continued to push forward. The relentless pursuit on the offensive end paid off in the 74
th minute. After a shot by
Gillian Young hit the post, Morrison corralled the ball and promptly fired home a shot that found the back of the net, pulling the Pacers within one at 2-1.
However, the Wolves put the margin back to a pair of goals with under 10 minutes to play. USCA continued to push forward as
Shy Iles had an attempt in the final minute that narrowly missed the far post.
For the match, USCA held a 10-7 edge in shots. Kleman's squad accounted for four shots on goal.
Morrison had a team-high two shots, including one on goal.
In goal, Moore played all 90 minutes and had two saves.
