AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team posted a pair of victories on Friday, defeating Francis Marion 3-0 before taking down Carson-Newman 3-1.
The Pacers are now 4-1 on the season.
Against Francis Marion, head coach
Glenn Cox's team jumped on top 10-5 with a kill from
Anna Sommer. Up 11-10,
Lexi Rogers hammered home a point. Two plays later,
Emily Lammers took a pass from
Tabor Scanlon for a point. After a kill from
Ana Cate Loftus, FMU called a time-out with the score at 16-11. Rogers followed the break in action with an ace. Loftus added a point to make it 18-11. Up 23-15, Sommer slammed home two passes over the next three plays for the 25-16 victory.
USCA took an 11-10 lead and increased it to 14-10 after a pair of kills from Loftus and one from Lammers. Up 15-12, Sommer started a run with a kill.
Sidney Hogan served up an ace. She stayed back to serve while
Chloe Duzenack and Sommer combined for a block. Sommer added two kills en route to a 21-12 advantage. Moments later, a kill from Hogan off a pass from
Sadie McKay made it 25-15 for a 2-0 lead.
Cox's team took control early in the third stanza and never looked back. The Pacers led 8-5 and went on a 6-0 spurt that essentially put the match away. During the run, Duzenack recorded a kill. Sommer chipped in two and Duzenack finished it off with a point. With the score at 23-13, Sommer and
Kaitlyn Rodriguez hammered home kills for the 25-13 victory.
For the match, Sommer led the way with 17 kills while hitting .615. Loftus added 10 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Lammers registered eight kills while Duzenack chipped in seven. Hogan dished out 23 assists and Scanlon added 21.
Defensively, McKay added 12 digs while Hogan added nine in the victory.
Against Carson-Newman, USCA jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the opening frame. Leading 3-1, Lammers had a kill. It was followed up with points from Loftus, Rogers, Scanlon and Gyongyver Araczki before an error pushed the margin to nine. C-N battled back, knotting the score at 20-20. After trading points until it was 22-22, Duzenack slammed home a kill. After an error by the Eagles, Araczki finished the set with a kill off a pass from Scanlon.
The Pacers trailed in the early going, but Cox's team found its groove trailing 8-5. Duzenack started things with a kill. Rogers and Duzenack accounted for the next three points. McKay served up an ace and a miscue by the Eagles made it 11-8. USCA continued to lead until the visitors knotted the score at 21-21. The Pacers trailed 23-22, forcing a time-out. After the break, C-N served up an error. Rogers hammered home a kill before Araczki and
Kaitlyn Rodriguez combined for a block to finish the set.
After dropping the third frame, the Pacers led 15-14 before getting a kill from
Alli Bishop. Sommer followed it up for a three-point lead. The visitors managed to tie the frame at 19-19. Trailing 22-21, Lammers knotted the score with a kill. Bishop hammered home a pass from Scanlon, forcing a time-out. Sommer registered a kill to go up 24-22. Leading 24-23, Lammers finished the match with a kill down the line for the 25-23 victory.
For the match, Rogers led the way with a double-double. She had 12 kills and 11 digs. Araczki notched 11 kills while hitting .588. Sommer totaled 10 kills while Lammers had eight.
Scanlon dished out 25 assists and had 14 digs while Hogan distributed 22 assists.
Defensively, Araczki was in on three blocks and McKay had a match-bets 21 digs.
