CENTRAL, S.C. – Head coach
Nick Sakiewicz earned his first career victory as the USCA men's soccer team notched a 2-0 win at Southern Wesleyan Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-0-2 on the season. The Warriors fall to 1-1 on the year.
USCA jumped out to an early lead. After earning a throw in near midfield,
Damian Rogers made a long pass toward the box.
Juan Felipe Ruiz took a couple of dribbles and blasted a shot to the lower left of the goal for a 1-0 advantage at the 22:00 mark.
Just over nine minutes later,
Sebastian Tascon found the back of the net. After dribbling toward the end-line, Ruiz flicked the ball back into the box. Tascon booted the shot into the left side of the frame for the 2-0 lead 31:45 into the contest.
Sakiewicz's team nearly added to the score early in the second period. Rogers managed to rip a shot with 51:17 on the clock, but it missed high of the goal.
The match did not see another shot until the 72
nd minute of action.
Sergio Aspas took the ball and booted an attempt toward the goal, but it sailed to the right.
Alvaro Corcuera registered a shot on goal in the 75
th minute of play, but the keeper managed to thwart the attempt.
For the match, USCA held a 9-7 edge in shots, including a 6-2 margin in shots on goals. Ruiz had two shots, including one goal. Tascon accounted for a goal in his lone shot.

Jose Rabadan and Corcuera all tallied shots on goal. Aspas and Rogers each had shots while Rogers and Ruiz were each credited with assists.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they travel to Talladega for a match starting at 4:30 p.m.
