SURREY, ENGLAND – Former University of South Carolina Aiken golf standout Brandon Robinson-Thompson qualified for the 124
th U.S. Open with his brilliant performance at the U.S. Open Final Qualifying Event Monday.
Robinson-Thompson competed at the Walton Heath Golf Club and fired a tournament-best 134 over 36 holes, securing a spot in the storied tournament. It marks the second consecutive year Robinson-Thompson will compete at a major after qualifying for the 151
st British Open.
A two-time first-team All-American, the Totland Bay, England, native was a two-time first-team all-conference honoree and a two-time first-team all-region selection. During his first year with the Pacers, Robinson-Thompson notched a team-best 72.74 stroke average, which marked the sixth best average in school history. During his final season, he notched a 72.1 stroke average and tied the school record for a low round of 64 at the Saint Leo Invitational. He won the PBC Championship in 2014 after shooting four-under par, 68, in the shortened tournament.
He registered nine top-10 efforts as a junior (2013-14) and four as a senior. As a Pacer, Robinson-Thompson won two tournaments (Saint Leo Invitational and PBC Championship) while wrapping up his career with a 10
th-place effort at the NCAA Division II National Championship.
