AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 6-1 decision to Francis Marion Tuesday evening in a region contest.
The Pacers are now 9-30 on the season.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team fell behind 4-0 after the first two at bats for the visitors. However, the squad got on the board with a solo home run by
Dalton Graves, pulling the squad within three at 4-1.
In the fourth,
Joseph Mozingo was hit by an 0-2 pitch, but a pop-up ended the inning.
Doom Dennis drew a base on balls with two away in the fifth. However, a deep fly ball by
Cade Bouknight completed the frame.
Capers Molinaroli earned a two-out walk in the sixth, but a line drive to the second baseman was caught.
FMU added a pair of runs in the eighth inning for a five-run advantage.
Brandon Osypczuk reached on a walk with two away in the ninth, but a fly ball ended the contest.
For the game, Graves recorded the team's lone hit. Dennis, Molinaroli and Osypczuk drew walks and Mozingo was hit by a pitch.
On the mound,
Caden Purvis got the start and recorded a strikeout.
Lucas Highberger worked 2.0 innings and had two strikeouts.
Blayne Newman tossed three innings and notched four strikeouts.
Jaylen Merchant recorded an out while
Cole Evilsizor worked two-thirds of an inning.
Jacob Bodkin worked the ninth.
