Molinaroli Records Two Hits At Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The USC Aiken baseball team lost a 9-3 contest at Lander Saturday evening in a PBC contest.

The Pacers are now 9-28 on the season, including a 5-12 ledger in conference action.

Trailing 3-0 in the second inning, Luke Parker singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Dalton Graves. Brandon Osypczuk reached on a fielder's choice, putting runners at first and third., but another fielder's choice ended the threat.

The Bearcats plated four runs in the bottom of the stanza for a 7-0 lead.

Jack Hobson was hit by a pitch in the third and hustled to second on a wild pitch with one away. A groundout allowed him to take third, but a fly ball concluded the stanza.

The score remained at 7-0 until the seventh inning. Graves singled to right field and took second on a fielding error. Two batters later, Osypczuk laid down a sacrifice bunt, pushing him to third. Graves scampered home on a wild pitch, making it 7-1.

USC Aiken threatened in the eighth frame. Josh Sharp singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Capers Molinaroli was hit by a pitch, putting two on base. Parker walked to load the bases with one away. With two away, Kaden Usry drew a walk, driving in Sharp. Osypczuk also walked, allowing Molinaroli to trot home, pulling the team within two at 7-3.    

LU managed to score two runs in the bottom of the frame for a six-run edge heading into the ninth stanza.

For the game, Molinaroli registered a team-best two hits. Cade Bouknight, Graves, Osypczuk, Parker and Sharp all tallied base hits. Osypczuk and Usry had one RBI apiece while Graves, Molinaroli and Sharp crossed home.

On the mound, Hunter Steger got the starting nod and worked 1.1 frames and had a strikeout. Derek Espinoza, Blayne Newman, Evan Condon and Lucas Highberger all saw time on the mound. Condon and Newman had three strikeouts apiece while Highberger added one.
