AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team registered a 6-0 shutout at Augusta Sunday afternoon to claim the series.
The Pacers are now 11-31 on the season, including 7-14 in PBC action.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team jumped on top with a run in the top of the second inning.
Brandon Osypczuk registered a lead-off single to left field and hustled to third on
Cannon Frost's double to left field. Two batters later,
Brock Myers laid down a sacrifice bunt, allowing Osypczuk to cross home.
The score was still 1-0 when
Jack Hobson doubled to right field to lead off the sixth stanza. After moving to third on a wild pitch,
Dalton Graves belted a single to center field as Hobson raced around third and scored for a two-run margin.
Myers garnered a base hit to center field in the seventh.
Josh Sharp's sacrifice bunt pushed him to second base. After going to third on a wild pitch,
Capers Molinaroli's single to center field drove Myers in for a 3-0 edge.
After a pitching change,
Kaden Usry singled, putting runners on first and second base. Both came home when Hobson continued his stellar weekend with a two-RBI double to left field.
Holder's squad added to the lead in the sixth. Graves singled with one away and promptly stole second. He managed to score on
Joseph Mozingo's RBI single to center field for the final run by the Pacers.
For the game, Frost, Graves, Hobson, Molinaroli, Sharp and Myers had two hits apiece. Hobson's two hits were both doubles while Frost and Myers also had extra-base hits. Hobson drove in two and six different USC Aiken student-athletes scored.
On the mound,
Matt Garcia worked five innings and had four strikeouts to get the win. He gave up just two hits and walked one.
AJ Deibel picked up two outs before
Cole Evilsizor closed the game for the save.
