AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Jack Hobson drove in six runs as the University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team knocked off Augusta by a score of 11-7 Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 10-31 on the season, including 6-14 in PBC play.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team jumped on top of the Jaguars with four runs in the top of the first inning.
Brock Myers led off the game with a double to right field and moved to third on a groundout. He scored when
Kaden Usry reached base.
Luke Parker drew a base on balls. He and Usry moved up 90 feet on a groundout. Hobson uncorked a three-run homer, giving the visitors a 4-0 advantage.
Tied at 4-4 in the fifth inning, Myers singled, moved to second on a grounder and stole third after Usry walked. Parker reached on a walk and another base on balls to
Dalton Graves allowed Myers to score. Usry scored on a fielder's choice and Parker crossed home plate when
Doom Dennis reached on an error.
Up 7-6 in the top of the seventh, Usry was once again the catalyst. He started the stanza off with a walk. Two batters later, he stole second base. He scored on Hobson's single up the middle, giving the Pacers a two-run margin.
USC Aiken tacked on to the lead in the ninth inning.
Josh Sharp laid down a bunt single and hustled to second on a throwing error. After moving to third when Usry reached on a fielder's choice, Sharp crossed home on Parker's sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Hobson added to his spectacular day with a base hit to left, driving in Usry. After stealing second base, Hobson scored on a base hit from Dennis.
For the game, Hobson registered three hits, including a homer, drove in a career-high six and scored twice. Myers tallied two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Dennis drove in two runs while Usry scored four times. Parker crossed home twice in the win.
On the mound,
Hunter Steger got the start and worked three innings. He had a pair of strikeouts.
Kevin Cox worked the final six stanzas to get the victory. Cox had six strikeouts in the win.
