Pacers Drop Contest To Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 6-5 contest at Flagler Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 7-18 on the season, including 3-5 in PBC action.

Head coach Michael Holder's team trailed 3-0 in the top of the sixth, but the squad cut the deficit to two at 3-1. Two pitches into the frame, Doom Dennis blasted a solo round-tripper over the left field wall.

Trailing 4-1 in the seventh, Capers Molinaroli singled to right field. With one down, Joseph Mozingo roped a single to left field, pushing Molinaroli to second base. Kaden Usry rocketed a double to the gap in left center field, driving in Molinaroli. Cade Bouknight knotted the game with a two-bag hit to right center field, plating Mozingo and Usry.

Flagler scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 6-4 lead.

Holder's squad continued to apply pressure. In the ninth, Mozingo drew a four-pitch walk. Cannon Frost came in as a pinch runner and trotted to second on a base on balls to Usry. A failed pick-off attempt put Frost on third base. A double play allowed Frost to score, but USC Aiken could not push across the tying run.

For the game, Bouknight led the team with two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Luke Parker, Molinaroli, Mozingo, Dennis and Usry all had hits. Usry's base knock went for two bases while Dennis blasted a home run. Dennis, Frost, Molinaroli, Mozingo and Usry all scored in the game.

On the mound, Hunter Steger worked 6.1 innings and had a strikeout. Derek Espinoza threw the final 1.2 innings of the contest.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow for the final game of the series starting at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
