ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 5-4 decision at Flagler Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 7-19 on the season and 3-6 in PBC play.
Down 2-0 in the top of the third,
Bradley White II ripped a one-out single to right field. A
Cannon Frost base knock pushed White II up 90 feet. After White II moved to third on a fly ball,
Capers Molinaroli singled him home to make it 2-1.
Joseph Mozingo led off the fourth inning with a double down the right field line.
Kaden Usry drew a walk and
Cade Bouknight reached on a fielder's choice, erasing Mozingo at third base. However,
Doom Dennis drew a walk to load the bags. White II lifted a pitch into center field for a sacrifice fly as White II crossed home plate. Two batters later,
Luke Parker belted a single to right field. Bouknight and Dennis scored on the play for a 4-2 advantage.
The Saints knotted the score at 4-4 with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
USC Aiken threatened in the seventh. With two away, Molinaroli drew a walk. A
Dalton Graves single pushed Molinaroli to second base. However, a fielder's choice ended the stanza.
The Saints scored a run in the bottom of the eighth for what turned out to be the game-winning run.
Brock Myers entered the contest as a pinch hitter in the ninth and swiftly singled to right field on a full count. Two batters later, Parker was hit by a pitch to put two on base, but a double play ended the game.
For the game, Molinaroli led the team with two hits. Overall, eight Pacers recorded hits in the game. Mozingo's base knock went for a double. Parker drove in two runs while four different USC Aiken student-athletes crossed home plate.
On the mound,
Kevin Cox worked 7.2 innings. He gave up five runs, including four earned. Cox struck out one batter.
Matt Garcia came in for the final out.
