AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Georgia Southwestern on Sunday.
Game scores were 11-1 and 23-3.
The Pacers are now 7-15 on the season and 3-3 in PBC play.
In game one, GSW got on the board with a run in the second and added to the lead with a two-run fourth and a four-run fifth for a 7-0 advantage.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team broke through with a run in the sixth.
Brock Myers drew a lead-off walk. After two pop flies,
Dalton Graves drew a walk, pushing Myers to second.
Joseph Mozingo ripped a single to the gap in left center field, driving in Myers to make it 7-1.
USC Aiken was unable to push across another run while the Hurricanes plated four runs in the seventh for the 11-1 victory.
For the game,
Cade Bouknight and
Josh Sharp had two hits apiece while Graves and Mozingo each posted hits. Mozingo had the lone RBI for the Pacers while Myers crossed home in the loss.
On the mound,
Hunter Steger got the start and worked four innings while taking the loss. He had a pair of strikeouts.
Luke Parker worked two frames and had three strikeouts.
Jacob Bodkin and
Jaylen Merchant each saw time on the mound.
In the nightcap, GSW led 13-0 before Myers led off the third inning with a solo round-tripper.
Two innings later, Myers reached on an error with two down. He raced home on a triple by
Josh Sharp.
Trailing 21-2 in the sixth, Graves was hit by a pitch. He moved up twice off wild pitches. Moments later,
Cannon Frost reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Graves to score.
The Hurricanes added two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final tally.
For the game, Sharp recorded two of the team's three hits. Frost, Myers and Sharp all had one RBI apiece. Myers scored twice while Graves crossed home plate once.
