AIKEN, SC – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 13-8 decision to Newberry Wednesday night.
The Pacers are now 7-16 on the season.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team found themselves down 1-0 early in the first, but they caught a runner trying to steal second base. This took a runner out of scoring position and led to no additional runs given up in the first for the Pacers.
Josh Sharp got the bats going early for the Pacers, tallying a triple in the team's first at bat.
Capers Molinaroli hit an RBI single that took Sharp home and knotted the game up.
Brock Myers,
Joseph Mozingo, and Molinaroli each tallied a single in the bottom of the third, but only Mozingo's would lead to a run. The Pacers trailed 5-2 at the end of the third.
Josh Sharp recorded his second hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth, and Molinaroli immediately tallied his third hit after.
Dalton Graves reached first base in the fifth inning, but both Graves and Molinaroli were left on base.
Kaden Usry was walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth, and
Doom Dennis got his first hit of the game via a single.
Bradley White II walked, and this led to the bases loaded with one out. Myers, Sharp, and Molinaroli all walked to bring Usry, Dennis, and White II home. The Pacers trailed 13-5 heading into the seventh.
Molinaroli was hit by pitch in the bottom of the eighth and moved to second on a base hit by Graves. Usry smacked a single into the gap that pushed Molinaroli home and Graves to third. Bouknight blasted a double that resulted in Molinaroli and Graves scoring.
White II led off with a walk in the final inning. Myers reached first on a fielder's choice.
Brandon Osypczuk helped Myers to second on another fielder's choice. Molinaroli walked and Graves hit a single to load the bases with two outs. However, the team was unable to push across any more runs in the game.
For the game, Graves and Molinaroli tallied three hits apiece. Bouknight, Sharp and Usry had two hits each. Bouknight and Molinaroli each drove in two runs.
Derek Espinoza got the start on the mound and pitched 1.1 innings.
