USCA Drops Regular-Season Finale

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The USCA volleyball team concluded the regular season with a 3-2 loss at Flagler Sunday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 12-7 on the season, including 4-4 in PBC play.

USCA jumped out to an early 3-1 lead behind two miscues from Flagler, along with a kill from Sadie McKay. A point by Alli Bishop pushed the score to 4-2 in the first frame. Down 9-7, Anna Sommer added a kill and an attack error by the Saints knotted the score at 9-9. Trailing 15-11, Gyöngyvér Araczki and Emily Lammers posted back-to-back points. The Saints would close the stanza out on a 7-1 run.

In the tightly contested second set, head coach Glenn Cox's team found itself down 17-11. However, Kaitlyn Rodriguez sparked a run with a kill. Two plays later, McKay served up an ace. Araczki and Rodriguez combined for a block to pull the visitors within two at 17-15. Down 18-15, Lammers, Araczki and Chloe Duzenack notched kills, tying the frame at 18-18. The Pacers took a 21-20 lead on an ace from Rodriguez. Tied at 21-21, Lammers hammered home a pass from Sidney Hogan, but Flagler rallied to score four of the final five points for a 25-23 win.

Trailing 10-9 in the third set, Sommer, Lammers and Rodriguez posted back-to-back-to-back points. Holding a 13-12 edge, Araczki found the court for a point before a miscue by the Saints forced a time-out. After the break, Araczki and Duzenack tallied kills. Leading 21-14, an error by Flagler and an ace by Araczki pushed the score to 23-14. Moments later, Bishop throttled a pass from Tabor Scanlon for the 25-16 win, forcing a fourth set.

Trailing 12-10 in the fourth set, a service error gave the side-out back to the Pacers. Lammers served up two aces and Bishop registered a point to make it 14-12. Down 18-17, Rodriguez had a kill. Araczki and Lammers blocked an attempt before Rodriguez added an ace for a 20-18 margin. Trailing 24-23, Lammers tied it at 24-24. A block from Bishop and Sommer gave the visitors a one-point edge before Sommer finished the frame with a kill.

USCA took a 4-1 lead in the fifth set after kills from Bishop and Lammers, but the Saints gained a 6-4 advantage. The Pacers pulled within one at 8-7 on a kill from Hogan but Flagler scored the final seven points of the match.

Cox's team was led by Lammers' 16-kill performance. Her 15th kill of the match marked the 1,000th of her career. Araczki slammed home 10 kills in 18 attempts while Bishop and Duzenack had eight kills each.

Scanlon distributed 29 assists while Hogan had 22. At the service line, Araczki, Lammers and Rodriguez had two aces apiece.

Defensively, Araczki and Lammers had three blocks. Rodriguez led the way with 14 digs while Lammers chipped in 12.

The Pacers return to action in the PBC Tournament. A bracket will be announced at the conclusion of the regular season.
