Pacers Fall To Saints In PBC Semifinals

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to second-seeded Flagler in the PBC semifinals Friday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 12-8 on the year.

Set scores were 18-25, 21-25, 25-17 and 15-25.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Emily Lammers' double-double effort of 11 kills and 10 digs. Alli Bishop slammed home 10 kills while Kaitlyn Rodriguez narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and a career-high 21 digs.

Chloe Duzenack added six kills while Gyöngyvér Araczki posted five kills. Anna Sommer and Tabor Scanlon accounted for four and two kills, respectively.

Sidney Hogan garnered a team-high 20 assists while Scanlon had a double-double with 18 assists and 10 digs.

Izabella De Lima served up a career-best three aces, had a career-high five assists and chipped in a career-best 14 digs.

At the net, Araczki totaled a block and two block assists while Bishop was in on two blocks.  

In the first set, Flagler held a 7-4 lead before a service error gave USCA the side-out. Hogan found Duzenack for a kill before Lammers found the court, knotting the score at 7-7. An attack error by the designated home team gave Cox's group a one-point lead. Trailing by three, Lammers slammed home a pass from Scanlon, pulling the visitors within two, 18-16. Flagler rattled off three points before Rodriguez answered with a point. The Saints would score four of the next five points for the 25-18 win.

Tied at 3-3 in the second frame, Alli Bishop hammered home a pass from Kaitlyn Rodriguez, who then found the court for a point. An attack error gave the Pacers a 6-3 lead. With the score at 9-9, Lammers and Duzenack notched kills for an 11-9 margin. Anna Sommer garnered a point to make it 12-10 only to see the Saints net five straight points. An error by Flagler pulled USCA within two at 16-14 but the Saints scored the next four points. Down 20-14, an error by Flagler, a kill from Rodriguez and a block from Araczki made it 20-17. The home team managed to hold on for the 25-21 victory.

USCA took a 6-5 lead on a kill from Araczki in the third set. Another kill from her and one by Duzenack pushed the score to 8-5. A miscue extended it to 9-5 before the Saints tallied a small rally to pull within one at 9-8. Lammers and Duzenack answered with kills. Up 12-10, Duzenack and Sommer posted back-to-back points. Maintaining a 14-12 edge, Cox's team earned a side-out off an error. Araczki and Bishop combined for a block before Bishop found the court for a point.  

After a time-out, an error by Flagler and three aces by Izabella De Lima served up three straight aces. The Pacers held a 24-17 margin before Lammers finished off the Saints with a kill.

USCA led the fourth set 3-0 behind a kill from Bishop and two aces from Duzenack. A point from Scanlon gave the Pacers a 4-2 working margin. A 13-3 spurt by the Saints gave the home team a 15-7 margin and recorded a 25-15 win.

For the match, USCA registered 47 kills. The team hit .215 and dished out 46 assists. The squad had six aces and notched 65 digs.

The Pacers await the NCAA Selection Show Monday.
