Pacers Open PBC Play With 3-1 Win

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The USCA volleyball team opened PBC play with a 3-1 victory at Georgia College & State University Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 8-2 on the year, including 1-0 in league play. The Bobcats drop to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in PBC action.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was paced by Emily Lammers' 15-kill, four-ace, seven-dig performance. Anna Sommer hit .391 while slamming down 12 kills. She also added three solo blocks and was in on a block assist. Tucker Patterson also accounted for 12 kills in the win. Ana Cate Loftus tallied nine kills with a .381 attack percentage while chipping in six digs.

Gyöngyvér Araczki had seven kills. Chloe Duzenack garnered three kills while Kaitlyn Rodriguez had two and Alli Bishop totaled one.

Tabor Scanlon notched a double-double with 26 assists and 11 digs while Sidney Hogan distributed 21 assists. She added five digs.

Sadie McKay was strong on the back line, totaling a match-high 20 digs.

In the first set, GCSU led 9-6 before Sommer recorded a kill. An error by the Bobcats made it 9-8. Down 15-11, Lammers, Rodriguez and Araczki registered back-to-back-to-back points. Trailing 21-16, Sommer found the court for a point. After a bad set by GCSU, Lammers garnered a kill off a pass from McKay. Two errors by the home team and a block from Lammers and Sommer gave the Pacers a 22-21 edge, but GCSU bounced back for a 24-23 lead. After Lammers tallied a kill, the home squad scored the final two points for a 26-24 victory.

Tied at 4-4 in the second stanza, a service error gave USCA a side-out. Lammers had a kill and Sommer added a block for a 7-4 margin. The tightly contested frame saw the Bobcats maintain a 20-16 lead before Sommer answered with a kill and a block. Lammers pulled the team within one, but an attack error made it 21-19 in favor of the Bobcats. Down 22-20, GCSU served up an error. Araczki notched consecutive kills before Bishop slammed home a kill. An error gave Cox's team a 25-22 win.

USCA trailed 13-10 in the third set before Patterson found the court off a pass from Scanlan. A block from Sommer, an attack error by GCSU and a kill from Lammers propelled the Pacers to a 14-13 lead. Patterson and Duzenack notched points for a 16-14 advantage. Moments later, Loftus garnered a kill for a 20-18 lead, forcing a time-out by the home team. After the pause in action, Scanlon befuddled the Bobcats with an ace. Patterson tallied a kill before Lammers sliced the defense with an ace. Up 24-21, Patterson finished off the set with a kill.   

With the score at 11-10 in the fourth frame, Araczki started a run with a kill. Scanlon served up an ace before Lammers found the court for a kill. Scanlon completed the run with another ace, making it 15-10. Leading 15-12, Patterson hammered home a kill. Lammers sliced the defense with back-to-back aces for a six-point margin, 18-12. Up 20-15, two errors by the Bobcats and a kill from Lammers pushed the score to 23-15. Loftus registered the final two points for the 25-15 victory.
