AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Georgia College & State University Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 2-11-2 on the year, including 1-7 in league play. The Bobcats stand at 7-6-3 overall and 3-3-2 against PBC teams.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team blasted a shot in the 10
th minute of play off the boot of
Lexi Blasberg, but it sailed wide of the frame.
GCSU took a 1-0 lead in the 32
nd minute of action, but USCA nearly knotted the contest late in the period.
Carmen Jones gained possession of the ball 40 yards away from the goal. She took a couple of dribbles and rocketed an attempt from 20 yards out. The keeper managed to barely get enough of the ball, forcing it over top of the goal while maintaining the score heading into the second half.
The Bobcats pushed the margin to 2-0 with a score 3:36 into the second period. Down 3-0, Kleman's team responded within seconds. In the 59
th minute of play,
Haley Howell connected a pass to
Ellie Thompson along the right side of the pitch. She took a dribble and belted a shot past the keeper from 15 yards out, slicing the deficit to 3-1.
Trailing 4-1, Thompson posted a shot on goal in the 65
th minute, but it was saved. Five minutes later,
Payton Bates tallied a shot high of the target. In the 80
th minute,
Ellie Garces placed a shot on goal that was stopped by the keeper.
For the match, Thompson had a goal and Howell posted an assist. Blasberg accounted for three shots while Thompson tallied two.
Kaydence Moore played all 90 minutes in goal and stopped seven shots.
The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they play at South Carolina State at 6 p.m.
