Pacers Play To 0-0 Tie At Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The USCA men's soccer team played Lander to a scoreless draw at Lander Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 3-5-4 on the year, including 0-5-2 in PBC play. The Bearcats stand at 2-5-4 overall and 2-3-1 in league action.

Head coach Nick Sakiewicz's team put a shot on goal in the 12th minute of play when Fasaikou Jammeh launched an attempt to the left, but it was stopped by the keeper.

Lander missed the goal on three occasions in the opening half. When the Bearcats did put one on target, Felipe Mattos turned it away, keeping the contest scoreless at intermission.

After Mattos registered a save early in the second period, Sakiewicz's team became the aggressor. Panashe Makokowe missed to the left of the frame in the 57th minute. Just two minutes later, Sergio Aspas missed to the right.  Izan Hernandez placed a shot on goal at the 59:19 mark, but it was saved. Less than a minute later, Aspas' attempt was also thwarted.

Late in the contest, Rainier McKinzy II had his shot blocked. Aspas and McKinzy II had attempts saved in the 79th and 80th minutes, respectively.

The Pacers turned away a pair of shots by the Bearcats in the final 10 minutes. USCA moved the ball into the box in the final 60 seconds, but the squad was unable to get off a shot.

For the match, Aspas had three shots, including two on goal. McKinzy II tallied a pair of shots in the contest.

Between the pipes, Mattos played all 90 minutes and stopped four shots for the clean sheet.

Sakiewicz's squad totaled nine shots, including five on goal. The team earned a pair of corner kicks.
