AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team scored a pair of early goals to notch a 2-0 victory over Shaw Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 2-5-2 on the season while the Bears fall to 3-5.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team got on the board early when
Isabella Gesmondi took a free kick and connected with
Shy Iles inside the box, who promptly fired the shot past the keeper for a 1-0 edge at the 12:38 mark.
At the 21:07 mark,
Avery List made a sensational pass into the box and
Brooke Salerno headed it to the far left corner for the 2-0 advantage.
USCA tried to push the margin to three in the 53
rd minute, but
Brooke Morrison's shot was blocked. Two minutes later, List's attempt narrowly missed right of the frame.
Gillian Young and
Lexi Blasberg rocketed attempts moments later, but both were saved by the keeper. A well-placed ball to
Ellie Thompson gave her a tremendous opportunity from 24 yards out, but it narrowly missed high of the frame.
Mia Duncan's shot from 30 yards out was thwarted by the keeper.
For the match, USCA held an 11-8 edge in shots, including 7-5 on goal. Kleman's team garnered three corner kicks.
Young posted two shots on goal. List totaled two shots, including one on goal. She also had an assist in the contest. Iles and Salerno each had a shot that resulted in a score.
In goal,
Kaydence Moore was outstanding. She stopped all five shots on goal for the clean sheet.
