AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA men's soccer team lost a 3-1 contest to Clayton State Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 3-5-3 on the year and 0-5-1 in PBC play. The Lakers improve to 8-2-2 on the year and 5-1 against conference foes.
Head coach
Nick Sakiewicz's team recorded an early shot off the boot of
Jose Rabadan, but it sailed high.
After a save by
Felipe Mattos in the 14
th minute of play, USCA maintained possession. In the 18
th minute of action, the Lakers were whistled for a foul in the box. Stepping up to take the penalty kick, Rabadan rocketed a shot to his lower left, giving the Pacers a 1-0 advantage.
USCA nearly made it 2-0 late in the first half, but
Alvaro Corcuera's attempt to the far post was thwarted by the keeper.
After intermission,
Panashe Makokowe blasted an attempt that sailed high of the frame in the 50
th minute of play.
Clayton State managed to knot the score in the 63
rd minute of action. The visitors tacked on goals in the 72nd and 77
th minutes for the 3-1 advantage.
For the match, Rabadan tallied two shots.
Kadin DeMesme, Makokowe,
Lucas Gomes and Corcuera all had shots in the match.
In goal, Mattos played all 90 minutes and stopped eight shots.
