USC Aiken Picks Up Key PBC Road Win At Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team recorded a 83-70 victory at Augusta Saturday afternoon in a PBC contest.

The Pacers are now 12-2 on the season, including 3-1 in league play. The Jaguars at 8-6 on the year and 1-3 against league foes.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Jalen McCoy's game-high 23 points. He also added six rebounds. Tehree Horn tallied 18 points while Tyler Johnson chipped in 17 points, five boards and four assists. Jameel Rideout added seven points.

Simeon German accounted for four points, eight boards and four blocks. Devin Evans accounted for four rebounds and three points while Rhyjon Blackwell, Demitrios Dixon and Dwight Canady, Jr., had three points apiece. Chedlet Delva netted two points in the win.

Vanderslice's team got off to a hot start, taking a 17-8 lead on a three-ball from Johnson. Leading 12-8, McCoy hit a jumper before Johnson buried the shot from downtown. Moments later, Canady, Jr., took a pass from Johnson and drained one from distance. McCoy's lay-up off a pass from Blackwell extended the score to 24-12.

Augusta pulled within five at 29-24 but Evans answered the bell with a wing three-point shot. Johnson's three-ball made it 38-26. USC Aiken extended the advantage to 16 when McCoy connected with Rideout for a bucket from three-point land. The Pacers held a 46-31 lead at the break.  

USC Aiken maintained a double-digit advantage in the second half. Leading 49-38, McCoy hit a free throw and German scored on a lay-up. Horn's three-ball pushed the margin to 55-38 with 15:35 to play.

The Jaguars trimmed the deficit to nine at 64-55 with 7:32 to go but German found McCoy for a lay-up. The Pacers maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Up 71-60, Johnson nailed a three-point bucket. Horn drilled a shot from deep at the 3:53 mark on the break before Johnson went coast-to-coast for a basket to make it 79-60 with 3:25 to play in the game.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 31-of-60 from the floor (51.7 percent), including 13-of-25 (52.0 percent) from deep. USC Aiken accounted for 13 points off eight turnovers. Vanderslice's team held a 39-35 edge on the glass.
