No. 22 USC Aiken Posts PBC Win At Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team recorded a 93-69 victory at Georgia Southwestern Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 13-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Jalen McCoy's game-best 31 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the floor. He added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Tehree Horn added 14 points on seven-of-13 shooting while Jameel Rideout accounted for 11 points. Devin Evans tallied 10 points while Tyler Johnson chipped in nine points to go along with six rebounds.

Rhyjon Blackwell notched seven markers and Demitrios Dixon had six points. On the glass, Simeon German snagged 11 rebounds.  

Tied at 7-7, Johnson buried a three-point shot off a pass from German and Vanderslice's team never looked back. Horn recorded a steal and lay-up at the 14:54 mark for a five-point cushion. Leading 12-11, Dixon canned a shot and Blackwell converted a lay-up for a 16-11 margin.

Up by four, 20-16, Blackwell netted a three-point play. Johnson's lay-up pushed the margin to nine. Moments later, Horn grabbed the offensive board and made an inside shot to go up 29-18 with 5:38 to play in the half. With 2:46 to go, Johnson found Evans for a three-ball, extending the lead to 20, 38-18. A pair of late free throws by the Hurricanes made it a 42-25 score at the break.

Leading 48-33, McCoy converted a lay-up. German blocked a shot and Horn made a lay-up. On the ensuing play, McCoy blocked a shot, German grabbed the board and Dixon finished it off with a lay-up to give the visitors a 21-point advantage.

Up 61-45, Rideout and Horn each made baskets before Evans connected from downtown. Moments later, Evans snagged a rebound and Rideout hit a three-ball for a 75-49 advantage with 9:32 to play.

USC Aiken continued to thrive. Chedlet Delva's free throws at the 2:09 mark extended the lead to 30, 93-63, en route to the victory.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 37-of-70 (52.9 percent), including four-of-15 (26.7 percent) from downtown. The team hit 15-of-25 (60.0 percent) from the charity stripe. The Pacers scored 17 points off turnovers and held a 48-30 edge on the glass. Vanderslice's team had 20 second-chance points and dominated the paint, 62-30.
